Visualisation - Disconnected

Because this song is so simple I think the video, which would accompany this song, would be a low key, small production, which would focus on the singer herself. The video would have muted colours and soft, low lighting. The editing would be to the beat and also use overlapping images and fades between shots.

I wouldn’t tell a story in the video just convey the emotions in the song. I would do this by showing the singer in some emotional distress. I would also have the singer as the only person in the video to make enhance the feeling of loneliness in the song.

I would have the singer walking over a bridge at night looking into the water. I would film the main singing parts of the video in a home with her sat at the window. I would also film her walking around a city type around.

Initial Listening

The song I am listening to is ‘Disconnected’ by Jazz Morley. Jazz Morley is a 22 year-old independent singer-songwriter.

The mood of this song is a loving sadness, which thought the lyrics and the way it is sung it feels the emotion is at the heart of the song. The tone of the song is nostalgic with a wanting for the past and the dislike of change.

The song sounds similar to Adele – ‘Someone like you’.  I reseon I like these songs sound similar is because both songs have piano and vocals as the songs main features and both songs are about the longing for someone.

The genre I would place this track into is Alterative soul. The song seems very soulful and has soul music features but is not conventional soul.

Oasis – The importance of being idle

Oasis ‘the importance of being idle’ is a dark and sombre song that is telling the story and man hard done by but content with life. The video matches the song well with the theme of an undertaker and a funeral procession while the song is talking about being content and happy with his life.

The start of the song has an almost marching rhyme, which is then repeat throughout and reflected by the video. This video doesn’t use lyrical interpretation, but the images complement the lyrics by showing the lead character working at a funeral home as a funeral director. The video is shot in black and white; this chose is something that added the depth of contentment in the lyrics of the song. The music is dark and seems colourless when matched with the images used.

In my opinion the visual match the song and complement the lyrics well. The video is something which suits oasis as a band. I like this video and think it is well made and has depth which works on many levels.

Evaluation

Our presentation is a presentation on sound used in the film ‘pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’.  The reason we chose to use this film is because of how sound is used in this film. The scene we chose to do is the island scene (chapter 8)

I feel that we explored the ideas and techniques used in this film. I also feel that we gave a clear understanding of the different type of sound and their place in filmmaking. As a group we communicated well and worked as a team to produce the presentation. Unfortunately I couldn’t be there on the day to give the presentation, this something I would like to try and improve on in future pieces of work.

Our glossaries become a useful resource when analysing the film. I feel that we demonstrated a clear and concise understanding of Diegetic sound, Ambient sounds, sound track and sound effects.
