How do you think your recoding matched
the cartoon?
I feel that my recording matched the
cartoon well. I watched the cartoon and tried to recreate the sounds to my best
ability or tried to resource the best matches from online sources. The sounds I
used fitted and matched the visuals.
Do they complement each other?
The sounds and the visuals, in my
opinion, complement the cartoon well. The sounds match the visuals and the help
reinforce the cartoons narrative. The cartoon makes sense and also communicates
well with an audience
What did you record and how?
I recorded two sounds, a cough and a
slap. The reason I recorded these sounds is because I couldn’t find a suitable
version of the sound online. I recorded these sounds by using a Dictaphone. I
produced these sounds by coughing to the microphone and clapping my hand
together.
What did you get online and why?
I got the sounds of the metal crashing
and glass smashing online. The reason I got these sounds is because I couldn’t
produce these sounds one my own. I also downloaded the sounds of the barking as
I couldn’t record this in college.
Are you happy with overall result?
I am personal happy with the overall
result, even thought some think that the music does not fit the cartoon. As I
was asked to redub this cartoon with new sounds I saw this as a good
opportunity to update and modernize the piece. To do this I use ‘Scary monsters and nice sprites’ by Skrillex.
I am happy with the overall sound and look of the cartoon. I feel that the
cartoon is entertaining to watch and shows my sound editing well
What would you do differently?
If I was to do this project again I
would like to use a different cartoon. As Tom and Jerry was produced in the
1940’s the production of the sounds and visuals was a very different process
that we used to redub the cartoon. Using a digital process to redub a hand-made
piece made the mix of quality and frame rate difference made the editing hard
then usual dubbing.
